The girl in the photo is Wu Jiuli, 22. She is from a Sichuan village of just about 100 people and she just graduated from Chongqing's Southwest University with a degree in English. She and Tony Zhang weere Interplast volunteers so I know their work history. I recruited her andTony Zhang to be the volunteer translators for Shelter Box which they served with distinction. Jiuli is taking a year off from her guaranteed graduate school track to teach high school students in Wu Shan, a very poor region near the Three Little Gorges in Chongqing. Jiiuli intends to apply for the 2009-2010 Ambassadorial Scholarship. I wish there are more students like her in China.
