Rotary China Conference a Success

I must say that If you missed this year’s conference with special guest RI President Gary, and our Guest of Honour Dr. Cheng Che-Min, you really missed out on a terrific event. We had two days of powerful speakers including what can only be described as “speed dating for social enterprises” where we had to push each of our 6 social enterprises to present in only 5 minutes. This was a real high energy blast - but in fact the entire event was a high energy infusion.

I will share some highlights on our new Rotary China website but if you can see for yourself photos from the 2 day event here on flickr (vpn needed in China…):

See below group photos from the end of Day 1 (Saturday 20th) and Day 2 (Sunday 21st).

If you would like to review some of the speaker presentations that can be shared - they are available here on Box (note the alternate “china” site - otherwise VPN required in China):

I would like to extend a special thank you to all of the participants who came from out of town, particularly those who came from outside of China. As conference Chair Sue noted we had more than 20 districts present which truly celebrated the breadth of our extended Rotary family.

Also a big thank you to the generous sponsors: Rotarians, non-Rotarians, companies and clubs who helped us make this conference break even - which is important since Rotary China does not currently charge members a normal district levy. The event was self-sustaining.

Press Coverage

Finally we were extremely pleased with the help of Rotarians Tara and Katia from Shanghai club to get some really positive press coverage in the Global Times. It was by far the most factually accurate description of Rotary I have seen in the mainland Chinese press so far and given the nature of this newspaper, it makes a very good impression for us locally to build on.
