On Wednesday 1 October we celebrate 95 years of Rotary in China!
Yes there was a long spell of 50 years where we exited the mainland but for more than 15 years we have been busy again doing good in China - and not just in Beijing and a Shanghai but in Chengdu and indeed throughout the country where the need is greatest.
We can proudly trace our roots back to the business leaders who brought The Rotary movement to China 95 years ago. And while this is a new era with different problems that Rotarians should tackle it can only help us to delve deeper into our past to see what our predecessors did. In this regard we are very fortunate to have artn a Herbert Lau who has been keenly researching the history of a rotary in a China for many years and who has volunteered to be our 'district' historian. We are equally fortunate recently to have been introduced to a young historian working in the Shsnghai archives who has a articulate interest in the foreign clubs before 1949 and who has agreed to assist us to probe deeper into some rare source materials.
